Meditate to Overcome Stress

Through the years, I have had a lot opportunity to work with people under stress and I’ve seen how important meditation is for staying balanced. If you have stress in your life, meditation can be an immense help to you. Firstly, we need to know what stress is. Stress and anxiety result when we experience daily pressures or adverse situations that feel greater than our resources allow us to cope with or satisfy. Nowadays, stress is one of the biggest challenges faced by the adults. Stress can cause negative effects on a person’s mood that can include lack of focus or motivation, restlessness, anxiety, anger, and irritability. It also has an effect on your behavior such as angry outbursts, social withdrawal, overeating or abusing alcohol or drugs.

Now, coming back to our topic; how does meditation help in overcoming stress? Meditation offers a sense of balance, peace and calm that benefits a person’s overall health and well-being. Throughout the day, when we experience stress, our bodies automatically react in ways that prepare us to fight or run. In other words, when our bodies are exposed to a sudden stress or threat, we respond with a characteristic "fight or flight" response. Meditation affects the body in exactly the opposite ways that stress does—by triggering the body's relaxation response. To attain a perfect state of health, one has to be mentally calm, steady and emotionally stable. Meditation can produce a deep state of relaxation and a tranquil mind. During meditation, you focus your attention and eliminate the stream of jumbled thoughts that may be crowding your mind and causing stress. This process may result in enhanced physical and emotional well-being.

Meditation is a simple technique that, if practiced for as few as 10 minutes each day, can help you overcome stress, decrease anxiety, improve cardiovascular health, and achieve a greater capacity for relaxation. Anyone can practice meditation. It's simple and inexpensive, and it doesn't require any special equipment. And you can practice meditation wherever you are — whether you're out for a walk, riding the bus, waiting at the doctor's office or even in the middle of a difficult business meeting. As you practice meditation and access the still calm center of yourself, you’ll start to notice something interesting. Your capacity to let go of the things that create stress increases. Meditation helps in relieving stress as well as it’ll heal your whole body and you’ll feel more enthusiastic, energetic, calm and peace. Meditation prevents stress from entering the body. It results in increased health, happiness and a positive state of being. Just remember that ‘Only a healthy person can blossom to his or her full potential’.
